Hello, I'm Maya.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
~Lao Tzu

Welcome to my website - a space intentionally created to give you a glimpse into what it might be like for us to work together. Looking for help is a courageous first step. I understand it isn’t easy and hope some of what you find within these pages offers you a window into how I like to work and the models about which I am passionate. This is a healing space and one of the things it does is create possibilities. Things start to seem possible that didn’t seem that way before. I’m here to support that happening.  So, let me tell you a little bit about me:

I’m a Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist and have over 20 years of experience working with individuals, couples and groups. I love my work as a therapist and as a supervisor/consultant.  The people I’ve worked with come to me presenting a range of issues including:  relationship challenges, trauma,  anxiety, chronic illness, life decisions, sexuality, gender, spiritual struggles and grief.  I am a huge advocate of Internal Family Systems (IFS), which was developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D, and Intimacy From The Inside Out (IFIO), which was created by Toni Herbine-Blank, MS, RN, Cs-P. These modalities have been life changing in my own life and in the lives of so many people I know and see in session.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

IFS is an evidence based therapy modality developed by Richard Schwartz, Ph.D.  It is an experiential approach (which I love) and is tremendously powerful.  I have personally found it to be life changing.

IFS sees individuals as a collection of PARTS and SELF. It holds that the mind is divided into sub-personalities or “parts”  which are expressed through thoughts, feelings, sensations, images, sounds, physical symptoms; the collection of which comprises our inner world. Our parts have valuable qualities but can take on extreme roles that can create challenges in our lives and relationships. What is true for all of us is that we also have an inner healing source called self or self-energy which offers the transformational qualities of presence and compassion.

Through IFS, we are working to build trusting and collaborative relationships between SELF and PARTS because the way you relate to your own inner world directly affects your relationships in the outer world. Healing is worth the effort.
